Amsterdam Museum on the AmstelSee now
Collecting the City is an exhibition series in which the Amsterdam Museum, in collaboration with various communities and organizations, “collects” and presents the vibrant city of Amsterdam. Each edition consists of a few mini-expos that together form a single exhibition.
This third edition we present the small exhibition Museum om de Hoek which features masterpieces from the Pianola Museum, Atelier Volten and Bellamy BuurtMuseum.
Stories from the neighborhood
Museum om de Hoek is a collaboration among 23 neighborhood museums throughout Amsterdam. They introduce interesting neighborhoods and the stories that make them unique. Better than anyone, these local museums are experienced in collecting and relating such narratives. From stories about the history of specific neighborhoods, to others about cultural heritage and coexistence in and around Amsterdam, as well as stories about the past, the here and now, and the future. Through interactive expositions, tours, and gatherings, these narratives come to life at neighborhood museums in remarkable ways.
Three neighborhood museums
For the project Collecting the City, the museums are invited to present their stories and collections at the Amsterdam Museum. This third edition of Museum om de Hoek includes local narratives as told by three neighborhood museums: Bellamy BuurtMuseum, Atelier Volten, and the Pianola Museum. They introduce the inhabitants of Oud-West, the self-playing piano, and artist André Volten.

Collecting the City #4
Until 2025, this is where the Amsterdam Museum will 'collect' and present our vibrant city, in collaboration with various parties and groups in the city. During this period, neighborhood museums, community networks, local artists, and passionate residents will share objects and stories about Amsterdam. Every half year, new contributors are invited to showcase their ideas—whether it’s a fresh perspective on the past, a beautiful or painful moment in the present, or a new vision of the city for the future. The Museum om de Hoek foundation, comprising 23 local museums throughout Amsterdam, is a permanent partner in this endeavor. They have a total of three rooms at their disposal.
