    Every month, the Amsterdam Museum organizes engaging events such as special tours, lectures, symposia, performances and evening openings. For these public programs we collaborate with a diverse group of partners to provide a platform to the city's many communities.

    Queer Gaze Tour met Sharan Bala (Dutch-speaking)

    28 juli, 11.30 - 12.30 uur, Amsterdam Museum aan de Amstel, gratis bij geldig entreebewijs

    Tijdens de Queer Gaze tour op zondag 28 juli van 11:30 tot 12:30 neemt gastrondleider Sharan Bala je mee door de vaste collectie van het Amsterdam Museum. 

    Kunstenaar Sharan Bala (zij/hen) houdt zich in haar werk bezig met de medische instituties die haar gezonde intersekse lichaam hebben gemedicaliseerd. Door haar ervaring te gebruiken in haar multimediale performatieve installaties en sculpturen stelt ze vragen over machtsstructuren, de medische blik en de medische, politieke en sociale opvattingen over sekse. 

    Sharan is intersekse activist, zo gaf ze onder andere een speech op de Dam tijdens de Pride Walk in Amsterdam en heeft ze regelmatige publieke optredens. Haar doel is om meer aandacht te generen voor de rechten van intersekse mensen en ze wil graag ruimte creëren voor andere intersekse mensen binnen onze maatschappij.

    Elke woensdag en zaterdag van de zomervakantie, 13.00 - 14.30 uur, Amsterdam Museum aan de Amstel, gratis

    Altijd al eens met een echte kunstenaar kunst willen maken? Kom in de zomervakantie naar het Amsterdam Museum! Elke woensdag en zaterdag van de zomervakantie organiseert het Amsterdam Museum in het kader van het ELJA Kindermuseumlab unieke kunstworkshops. 

    De kunstenaars nemen je mee in het thema ‘Identiteit: vieren van zelfexpressie’. Creëer bijvoorbeeld met verschillende druktechnieken jouw eigen wereldkaart, schrijf een brief over jezelf naar een ander of maak kennis met bijzondere verhalen tijdens een voorleesmiddag in samenwerking met de Openbare Bibliotheek Amsterdam.

    Grand March Tour by Amber Vineyard

    2 August, 12.00pm - 1.30pm, The Willet-Holthuysen House

    On August 2nd, September 8th and October 6th join a unique tour through the exhibition Grand March: A Historic House through a Ballroom Lens, guided by Amber Vineyard, founder of House of Vineyard. Discover the Willet-Holthuysen House on the Herengracht through the lens of ballroom culture. Amber shares insights on powerful themes of resistance, community, self-expression and the evolution of ballroom since the 1970s. This exclusive experience offers a fresh perspective on history and art.

    Amber Vineyard is the 'mother' of the dynamic and internationally recognized House of Vineyard. House of Vineyard was founded 10 years ago and grew into more than a group that organizes or participates in balls: it is a powerful movement that introduced ballroom culture in the Netherlands and continues to enrich it.

    In the historic rooms of Amsterdam Museum-location Huis Willet-Holthuysen, House of Vineyard shows the power of ballroom culture with stimulating fashion interventions and art installations.

    Manahahtáanung of Nieuw Amsterdam? Het Inheemse verhaal achter New York Amsterdam Museum on the Amstel
    400 years ago the first Dutch colonists arrived in the area known today as New York. The Amsterdam Museum has joined with the Museum of the City of New York and representatives of the Lenape —original inhabitants of this area of the United States— in creating an exhibition about this shared history.

    For the fourth time, museum and city join forces to bring stories of Amsterdam into the limelight. This time the participating partners are Kazerne Reigersbos, Ongekend Zeedijk and Museum om de Hoek.

    By connecting stories from the past, present, and future, a broader perspective of the city emerges: Amsterdam, in all its dimensions.

    Freedom Amsterdam Museum on the Amstel
    Children from the seven boroughs and Weesp district will present their works of art that they created during the Amsterdam Museumkamp. The works range from a folding screen to a throne and are made of different materials and techniques such as screen printing or photography.
