    ASMR-TALK: Unboxing

    Times will follow

*whispers* Listen and discover how museums store and present pieces of fashion in an ASMR-talk, in which the soft sounds and stories take you on a journey behind the screens of our collection and the exhibition Unboxing: Fashion from the ArchivesThe mini-exhibition Unboxing: Fashion from the Archives shows samples from the museum’s fashion collection and explores how such collections can be presented in new ways. From a 16th-century breastplate and new acquisitions by leading Amsterdam designers like Mohamed Benchellal and Tess van Zalinge, to the Pink Feather Explosion dress by David Laport, worn by pop icon Rihanna.

ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response) ensures a calming experience by using subtle sounds such as whispering, touch and fabrics that stimulate your senses; be at ease as you listen to the rustle of acid-free paper.

Between Art & Kitsch: fashion edition

    21.00 uur, 22.00 uur, 00.00 uur

With fashion and style we say who we are, what time we live in, and what group we want to belong to. And also what we stand for, what we believe in, and where we want to go. From the moment a piece of clothing enters a museum collection, it assumes a different function. Specialists care for it, and it is studied together with the corresponding communities. Occasionally, it is exhibited to the public. Who decides what is of value in a museum?

How much is the cap you are wearing worth? Or your shoulder bag that you wear every day? And that dress Rihanna once wore? Take a seat at the special Between Art & Kitsch table and find out by talking to fashion and museum experts about your everyday clothing items.

Will you contribute to the new exhibition Women of Amsterdam - an ode? Together with the help of various writers, you pay tribute to a woman who meant something to Amsterdam and complete the story of the city! Your ode will become part of the collection of the Amsterdam Museum.

This workshop is part of the project Women of Amsterdam - an Ode, to mark Amsterdam's 750th anniversary. It kicked off on 8 March 2024 on International Women's Day. From that date, we call on everyone to make an ode to a woman who is (has been) important for the city of Amsterdam. Anyone can participate. The form of an ode is free.

Rather not write an ode, but draw it? Then join the workshop by Flessie where you can design your own winelabel.

    Untold Restored

    19.00 - 02.00 uur - ongoing

Seven young adults have designed a card game and an augmented reality tour for the Untold Restored program. Who made the city what it is today? Which people were important and why? The augmented reality tour brings the stories behind the artworks to life. By playing the card game you will learn more about art, Amsterdam and how a museum works in an interactive way: for example, why are you not allowed to enter the museum with your bag, how does a museum collect art and whose art actually belongs to?

Come experience the card game for the first time and who knows, maybe you'll walk away with a win!

    19.30 uur, 20.30 uur en 21.30 uur

Do you often feel unrepresented in museums? Many historical portraits show mostly white men and traditional stories. In the Faces of North Holland exhibition, we broke this narrative by collecting new faces and stories that show the province's diversity.

In this workshop with artist Sioe Jeng Tsao (SEEYOUSIOE) - illustrator, writer and activist - we will work together to create new portraits that tell your story and celebrate the diversity of our communities. Draw a portrait that contributes to a museum where everyone is visible and heard!

Will we see you November 2nd?
