Ayşen Kaptanoğlu (Silivri, Turkey, 1985) works with painting and animation.
Trading her career in literature for the visual arts, she graduated from the Wackers Academy in Amsterdam. In her painting practice, Kaptanoğlu does not limit herself to a specific subject, but instead approaches a series of topics that are dominating her thoughts and emotions, like the position of women in the violent chaos of a male-dominated society or the oppression of people who have been silenced. Beneath the surface of her vibrant work often lurks a profound and burdensome story.
