Johanna Elisabeth (Joke) Smit, married known as Joke Kool-Smit, (Utrecht, 27 August 1933 - Amsterdam, 19 September 1981[1][2]) was a Dutch linguist, journalist, politician and feminist.
Her article Het onbehagen bij de vrouw (The uneasiness of women, De Gids, 1967) is considered the beginning of the second feminist wave in the Netherlands. ‘A whole generation of women felt inspired by her to arrange their lives differently from what was expected of them.’ Read more here.
